where to start?

useful help on where to start
Getting it right first time will save you money and more importantly
head aches and delays. |

with a product to suit every budget.

we can deliver your project on time and with one of four cd
print methods.
CD Printing
Discus Group offer the following 4 print methods
Offset Litho Print - The highest quality print method
for photographic images or where a vingette is used in the design.
Output at 195 lpi (80 lines per cm) gives the best print results
for detail. Offset printing gives the best results and offers
the following advantages, Consistent high image quality and
the more you print the less you pay. Tonal ranges of 5% to 95%
much better than Silk Screen, thin layer of paint applied, this
can give less brilliance and shine than silk screen. Only CMYK
printing available for CD body printing, no pantones allowed.
Silk
Screen - Retail grade print method used for large print
runs. Best suited to text, graphics and solid colours or where
a pantone is required. Output is 135 lpi (54 lines per cm) giving
high quality permanent print results and is more cost effective
than Offset Litho Print. Thicker layers of paint are used resulting
in high brilliance and shine. Suitable for Pantone colour matching,
Luminous colours or special varnishes or glazing. Tonal range
15% to 85%.
Thermal Litho Print - High quality permanent disc printing
method suitable for shorter print runs where retail quality
is a must. Perfect for short runs or quick turnaround times
as printing is straight from artwork disc to print. Not suitable
for Pantones, Tonal Range 20% to 80%, 170 LPI (62 lines per
cm)
Digital Print - sometimes called Digital disc printing
- Photo quality print direct to the face of the DVD, using inkjet
dvd printing. Our budget print option which is the cheapest
most cost effective high quality disc print possible for short
runs with no minimum quantity. Digial DVD printing gives vibrant
photographic quality print and leaves a matt finish to the disc.
Note as the ink is water soluble it may spoil if subjected to
wet conditions. Discs can be lacquered to give some resistance
to moisture but this is not a perfect solution. Tonal range
5% to 95%
CD Label Printing - we do not recommend stick
on labels to customers due to the many disadvantages they have
and time taken to apply.

| What
is the best CD disc print ? |
Discus Group offer four types of printing
on the surface of the CD disc.
Digital disc printing - inkjet print on special discs
coated with an ink receptive print surface. The cheapest most
cost effective high quality disc print possible for short runs
with no minimum quantity. Gives vibrant photographic quality
print and leaves a matt finish to the disc. Note as the ink
is water soluble it may spoil if subjected to wet conditions.
Discs can be lacquered to give some resistance to moisture but
this is not a perfect solution.
Thermal Litho disc printing - Designed for Retail grade
photo quality print for short print runs of discs with no minimum
quantity. On a par with Offset Litho printing see below, but
more expensive than digital print, but used for products headed
for retail or where corporate brand is important.
Silk Screen disc printing - Requiring longer lead times
than digital cd print or thermal cd print this is the most common
method of print onto discs for retail. The process involves
separating out the 4 colour channels of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow
and Black or spot colours onto films. These films are exposed
onto silk frames which are then used for printing the discs.
Generally available at 135 LPI (lines per inch). Silk screen
is best for solid colours, graphics and text.
Offset Litho disc printing - by far the best print obtained
is Litho print for photographs or fine details on discs. Output
is 195 LPI (Lines per Inch). Suitable for larger print runs
and is unrivalled on quality
CD label printing - We do not recommend the
use of sticky labels for applying designs to discs as they have
been known to peel off the disc when left in a machine which
gets hot. This leaves the distributer with a liability to repair
the recipients machine |
